Fat Injection to the Face
Aging is a natural process, this natural process naturally follows and creates changes on our face. The effect of aging shows itself most clearly in the face area, while the soft tissues on the face slide down over the bone, volume loss occurs in the adipose tissue that serves as a support under the skin.
Volume loss, wrinkles and changes that occur with the effect of aging and other factors affecting this process can be effectively treated thanks to the developing technology. While interventions for all kinds of effects of aging can be performed, skin rejuvenation applications can be performed in the face area where the most observable effects occur.
What is Fat Injection?
It is the injection of fat into those areas to provide fullness in various parts of the face and body. Cheeks, forehead, cheek-lip line, lips, chin tip, sunken areas on the hips and legs can be counted as examples of places where this application is made.
How is Fat Injection Performed?
Today, 2 methods are used for fat transfer. These methods are ‘conventional fat injection’ and ‘micro fat transplantation’. The difference between these 2 methods is in the permanence of the injected fat amount. In the first method, the fat taken is injected as it is and in mass, whereas in the micro fat transplant, the fat is taken at low pressure and without damaging the tissue, processed and injected into the tissue layer by layer, in very small amounts. Thanks to this method, the melting rate of the fat cells placed has been reduced from 80% to 30-40%, that is, the permanence of the fat on the face has been increased.
Micro-injection also prevents facial fluctuations and excessive swelling. In addition, since the cells remain alive in the body, a single injection usually provides sufficient results. In this technique, it is possible to fill the sagging or empty face parts (cheeks, upper part of the cheekbones, jaw line and around the lips) with some fat taken from the abdomen, hips, waist or legs due to aging.
In Which Areas Is Facial Fat Injection Performed?
Fat injection to the face is a procedure that can be applied to some local areas as well as to the entire face. In general, it may be required in people who have lost weight at a young age or in people who have entered the early aging process.
If we list the applied regions;
- temporal region (temporal region)
- cheek area
- under eye area
- Nasolabial region (the line from the nose to the mouth)
- facial lines between eyebrows
- upper lip area
- lower lip area
- forehead mimic lines
- forehead area
When Are the Results of Fat Injection to the Face Seen?
The results of the fat injection to the face are visible gradually, a reduction of 40% of the injected fat cells can be seen in the first 3 months after it is done. Doing “overcorrection” in anticipation of fat loss can cause an excessively swollen face. In the first three months, fat cells are at their lowest in volume, but after the fourth month, they begin to gain volume again. For this reason, overcorrection will affect the final result of the patient and may make him/her not satisfied with the treatment.
It is important to remember that minimal results may be obtained in some patients, as the transferred fat cells do not survive. In general, less fat survives as you age. It is also thought that smokers have worse outcomes. After nine months, the results are permanent as the remaining oil cannot be absorbed.
What are the Effects of Fat Injection to the Face?
The most common area of fat injection is the face area. Fat injections to the face; It is carried out to thicken the lips, to reduce deep wrinkles as much as possible by filling them, and to plump the cheekbones. We can list the effects of fat injection on the face area as follows;
- Some of the fat injected into the face area is absorbed by the body and the volume lost due to aging is regained.
- Fat injection increases the production of collagen in the body.
- The fat cells transferred by fat injection act like a kind of stem cell, rejuvenating the skin and giving vitality to the skin.
- An average of 40% of the oils transferred by injection can persist for 6 months.
- After the procedure, facial edema and bruising may occur in the area where the fat is removed. These effects of the fat injection process continue for an average of one week or ten days, after which the edema quickly disappears and fullness appears.
